Michel nets four and two in victory

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored the game's first six goals then staved off a furious second-half rally by Ursinus to notch a key 11-8 Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse victory on Saturday.

Mallory Michel (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) recorded four goals and two assists to lead the Green Terror (9-5, 5-3 CC), who will assure itself a playoff berth with a victory at Washington in next Saturday's finale but can also earn a bid with other results over the final week of the regular season.

Caroline Cannon netted two goals for the Bears (7-7, 2-5 CC), who got points from eight different players.

Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) tallied three goals to help stake McDaniel to a 6-0 lead just 12:40 into the game.

Entrot finished from Sam Barbeito (Wolfsville, Md./Middletown) just 54 seconds into the game before Julia Jacobs (Stevensonville, Md./St. Mary's) found Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) just 50 seconds later to double the advantage.

Entrot then hit Jacobs for a 3-0 lead with 27:46 showing before back-to-back Michael-to-Entrot connections made it a 5-0 game with 21:28 to play.

Michel capped the 6-0 start, finishing a feed from Monica Parcell (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro).

Brynn Dietzel found Mary Deliberti with 3:06 showing in the first half to break up the shutout.

Solo runs from Dietzel and Nicole Kovacs in the final 1:48 of the first half closed the deficit to 6-3 at the break.

Jacobs and Emma Ebert traded goals in the first 4:21 of the second half before a pair of Michel tallies – both off Jacobs assists – stretched the lead to 9-4 with 18:45 remaining.

Jayme Verman and Devin Brakel scored 42 seconds apart to trim the margin to 9-6 before Cannon finished from Kitty Dawson and then converted a free-position attempt to make it a one-goal game with 14:27 to play.

A Barbeito free-position goal pushed the lead back to two with 8:06 to play before Michel capped her day off an assist from Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) with 2:13 on the clock.

Lauren McCadden (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

McDaniel returns to action at Susquehanna on Wednesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
