Barbeito keys fast start in victory

WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel scored six goals in the game's first 4:16 en route to a 16-8 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Frostburg on Saturday.

Sam Barbeito (Wolfsville, Md./Middletown) capped the opening burst for the Green Terror (2-0), recording a natural hat trick in just 1 minute, 46 seconds. She finished the game with a career-high six points on three goals and three assists. Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Julia Jacobs (Stevensonville, Md./St. Mary's) added four goals and an assist each.

Malory Brunett led the Bobcats (0-5) with three goals.

Jacobs opened the scoring, finishing a solo run just 19 seconds into the game.

Entrot doubled the advantage 23 seconds later off the first of five straight Barbeito points.

Barbeito then found Monica Parcell (Prospect Park, Md./Interboro) nearly a minute later for a 3-0 lead.

An unassisted Barbeito goal then tallies off assists from Parcell and Entrot made it a 6-0 game with 25:44 to play in the opening half.

Emani Byrd got Frostburg on the board with 16:51 showing but Jacobs responded off a Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) helper 40 seconds later.

After a Megan Hart goal with 1:47 remaining in the first half, Parcell and Entrot each hit the back of the net around a Brunett tally to make it a 9-3 game at the break.

Entrot, Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) and Jacobs pushed the advantage to 10 with 16:00 to play. Entrot finished a Quinn feed before Bopst scored off a helper from Mallory Michel (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and Jacbos tallied twice 1:06 apart.

An Allison Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) finish from Jacobs stretched the advantage to 14-3 with 12:25 showing.

Two Hart goals around a Quinn marker closed the margin to 15-5 before Byrd and Brunett made it an eight-goal game with 1:49 remaining.

Entrot and Brunett traded goals in the final 1:21 to set the final margin.

McDaniel finished with a 40-24 advantage in shots, including a commanding 22-12 edge in the first half. Entrot won six draw controls while Quinn corralled four.

Kate Goldstein (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) made 10 saves for the Green Terror while Heather Lowe made 13 stops for the Bobcats.

McDaniel returns to action at Elizabethtown on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
