Valori has five hits to cap trip with sweep

FORT MYERS, Fla. – McDaniel scored in every inning of the opener en route to a doubleheader sweep of NYU-Polytechnic on the team's final day of the Gene Cusic Classic in non-conference baseball action on Friday.

Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) led three players with no fewer than four hits for the Green Terror (6-7), who took the opener 10-0 before completing the sweep and running its current winning streak to four games with a 7-5 victory. Valori finished with five hits while Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) and Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) had four hits each.

Kian Downes led the Blue Jays (0-6) with four hits in the twinbill.

After an error to start the bottom of the first inning, Drew Phillips (Sherwood, Md./St. Michael's) and Windisch drew back-to-back walks.

After a lineout double play for the first and second outs, Betts roped a two-run double for a 2-0 lead.

PJ Anderson (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) led off the second inning with a single before Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./JM Bennett) and Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) drew back-to-back walks to load the bases.

A wild pitch scored Anderson before a Windisch single plated Hayward for a 4-0 advantage.

A Hayward two-run double pushed the lead to 6-0 in the third, scoring Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) and Joe Fiore (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Beach).

A Valori double and Betts RBI single made it a 7-0 game in the fourth before Valori plated Hayward with an RBI knock with two outs in the fifth.

An Anderson single and two hit batters loaded the base for Windisch, who doubled in two runs with two outs to set the final margin in the sixth.

In the nightcap, Windisch, Valori and Betts reached with consecutive one-out singles in the top of the first to load the bases for Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast), who cleared the bases with a double for a 3-0 advantage.

A Downes double and Sy Cohen one-out single made it a 3-1 game in the bottom of the frame.

With one out in the second, Cody Dorsey (Boyds, Md./Poolesville) and Windisch were hit by pitches before Valori singled home Dorsey for a 4-1 lead.

A Betts single, Grantland RBI groundout and wild pitch pushed the lead to 7-1.

Peter Finch singled to the lead off the bottom of the third before a Downes double and walk loaded the bases. A double play gave McDaniel two outs but scored Finch to make it a 7-2 game.

A fourth-inning error before a Christopher Ma RBI groundout and Finch RBI single led to a pair of unearned runs and trimmed the deficit to 7-4.

A two-out error allowed Cohen to score in the fifth for the final margin.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Penn State-Mont Alto on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
