Brooks breaks pool record in 1000

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Washington (Md.) won eight of the first 10 events to defeat McDaniel 61-34 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming action on Saturday.

Brad Brooks (Newark, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) led the Green Terror (1-9, 0-6 CC) with three victories, including breaking his own pool record in the 1000 freestyle by nearly seven seconds. The sophomore turned in a time of 9:31.72 for his best time of the season. Individually, he also won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:40.56.

Pat Elliott, Brent Longenecker and Eric Burcin each won twice to pace the Shoremen (9-1, 5-1 CC), who wrapped up their best dual-meet season in program history. Elliott won the 200 free (1:47.92) and 200 backstroke (2:01.28) while Longenecker touched first in the 50 free (22.52 seconds) and 100 free (50.24).

Burcin won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.96) after teaming with Charles Logan, Greg Lee and Austin Yocum to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:41.07.

Brooks also joined Stevie Hoyt (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), Patrick Rogers (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) and Logan Linden (Millville, Del./Indian River) in the 200 free relay with a victory in a time of 1:30.74, which ranks ninth all-time in program history.

Hoyt placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.61 seconds and the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.08.

Rogers was also second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.85. He was also third in the 200 backstroke (2:07.98).

Justin Allen (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) finished second in 100 free with a time of 50.97. He was also third in the 200 IM (2:05.51).

McDaniel concludes the season at the Centennial Conference Championships hosted by Franklin & Marshall on Friday, Feb. 21 through Sunday, Feb. 23. Action begins at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
