Valori has four hits in opening split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ARLINGTON, Va. – McDaniel scored four run in the first two innings of the opener en route to a doubleheader split with Marymount in non-conference baseball action on Saturday.

Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored in the twinbill for the Green Terror (1-1), who took the first game 4-0 before the Saints (2-5) got a walk-off home run from Ben Berczek to lead off the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 victory in game two.

In his first collegiate at bat, Valori rapped a double before taking third on a fielder's choice and soring on a Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) single through the left side.

Joe Fiore (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Beach) led off the top of the second with a walk before stealing second.

Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) followed with a single to put runners at the corners for Andrew Hofmeister (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh), who doubled home Fiore for a 2-0 lead.

A Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) one-out infield single played Hayward before a Valori sacrifice fly scored Hofmeister for the 4-0 advantage.

Jake Brown settled in after that, allowing just one baserunnner over the final five innings.

Andrew Monger (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) struck out three in five innings to pick up the win. Jack Dowd (Friendship, Md./Bishop McNamara) fanned three in the final two innings to earn the save.

The nightcap was a pitchers' duel until Anthony Perretti led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk and took second on a passed ball.

A Bret Phillips doubled staked Marymount to a 1-0 lead before a sacrifice bunt and Austin Schnarrs double pushed the advantage to 2-0.

Chad Nazelrod (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led off the top of the seventh with a single before Jonathan McKinney (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) was hit by a pitch to put two runners on.

A Sivo bunt single loaded the bases before Valori, whose infield single scored Nazelrod to trim the deficit to 2-1.

A two-out single from Betts knotted the game before Berczek went yard to left-center for the game-winner.

Sivo finished with three hits in the twinbill.

The Green Terror returns to action at Gallaudet on Wednesday. Game time is 2 p.m.
