Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel went on a 22-4 run over the final 11 minutes of the first half to turn a four-point deficit into a 32-18 halftime lead and 64-40 victory over York (Pa.) in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday.
Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led a balanced attack for the Green Terror (4-0) with 15 points while Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) chipped in a season-best 12 points.
Sam Mocniak, Morgan Kuehne and Kailee Knight led the Spartans (3-2) with six points apiece.
Trailing 14-10 on a Katie Wagner layup with 11:12 to play, Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) responded with two free throws 24 seconds later to spark the game-changing run.
Davis added a layup to tie the game with 10:13 showing before Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) added a steal-and-layup a minute and a half later to give McDaniel the lead for good.
A Davis triple and single Lauren Ballenger (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) free throw capped a 10-0 burst before Shea Wassel snapped a 5-minute, 5-second scoring drought for York.
Ballenger added the other seven of her first-half points over the final 4:23 of the half.
Four straight points from Nichols to open the second half pushed the lead to 18 before 46 seconds had elapsed.
A Zeps second-chance layup with 15:03 showing made it a 42-22 game.
Two Julianne Lambert free throws closed the deficit to 48-34 with 10:28 to play but the Green Terror reeled off the next eight points en route to the 24-point win.
Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) finished with nine points and seven rebounds while Zeps added six points and six rebounds.
McDaniel returns to action at Dickinson on Tuesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
