Box Score HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata scored twice in the game's first 3:56 en route to a 56-31 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) football action on Saturday.
Matty Callahan (Germantown, Md./Northwest) led the Green Terror (1-7, 0-7 CC) with 387 yards passing, completing 28 of 43 attempts for the team's first 300-yard passing game since 2011 and the most in a single game since Brian Van Duesen's program-record 433-yard outing on Sept. 24, 1994. He also rushed for a team-high 68 yards to give him a program-record 455 yards of total offense.
Ward Udinski paced the Eagles (4-4, 3-4 CC) with 469 yards passing, completing 22 of 28 passes with five touchdowns. He also ran for 90 yards and two scores. Juniata finished the day with a 685-530 advantage in total yards.
Isaiah took the opening kickoff at its own 2 and returned the ball 98 yards for a touchdown a 7-0 lead just 14 seconds into the game.
A 48-yard Kirby Breault touchdown grab from Udinski capped a 5-play, 88-yard drive on Juniata's first offensive possession to stretch the lead to 14-0 with 11:04 on the clock.
McDaniel marched the ensuing possession 75 yards in 10 plays before the drive stalled inside the Eagle 4. Spencer Wiersberg (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) came on to convert a 21-yard field goal to close the deficit to 14-3 with 6:00 to play in the first quarter.
Nick O'Melia (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) and Mike Oliveto (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) both had big catches on the drive. O'Melia had a 23-yard catch on third-and-3 while Oliveto hauled in a 21-yarder on third-and-10.
On a second-and-12 play, Breault juked a handful of defenders on an inside shovel pass before taking the ball down the right sideline for a 76 yards for a 21-3 lead with 3:27 on the clock.
A one-yard Udinski run stretched the advantage to 28-3 with 11:25 to play in the second quarter.
Udinski made it a 35-3 game with a four-yard keeper at the 2:19 mark.
One offensive play later, an Oliveto 52-yard catch-and-run resulted in a touchdown with a dive into the end zone to once again make it a 25-point margin with 1:57 on the clock.
Following a 14-yard Slutter touchdown, McDaniel marched down the field but fumbled the ball at the one-yard line.
The defense responded with forcing a fumble of its own and Andy Ullmann (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) picked up the loose ball.
Seven plays later, John Chamberlin (Franklinville, N.J./Williamstown) capped the 57-yard drive with a seven-yard touchdown to make it 42-17 with 3:44 to play in the third quarter.
One play after a Tyler Krebs (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) fumble recovery near midfield, Callahan hit O'Melia in stride for a 48-yard touchdown with 11:15 to play.
A pair of Sutter touchdowns extended the lead to 56-24 before Sean Montgomery (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) hauled in a 10-yard touchdown to cap an eight-play, 70-yard drive to set the final score with 2:49 to play.
Oliveto finished with 150 yards receiving while O'Melia had 103 yards receiving.
Matt Quattrone (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) led the Green Terror defense with 10 tackles – all solo stops.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Susquehanna on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
