WESTMINSTER, Md. – Goucher took a 2-1 lead after doubles en route to a 6-2 victory over McDaniel in non-conference men's tennis action on Friday.
Ryan Salomon (Bethesda, Md./The Siena) led the Green Terror (1-1) with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.
Seth Hoesman led a trio of double winners for the Gophers (2-1) that included a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles. He also teamed with John Bescoby for an 8-4 win at first doubles.
Joey Caracappa and Britt Shortle were also double winners, partnering for an 8-2 win at second doubles. Caracappa won 6-1, 6-3 at second singles. Shortle bounced back after dropping a 6-4 decision in the first set to Daniel Xinis (Owings, Md./Northern) at fourth singles to force a super-tiebreaker third set with a 6-2 win in the second set. Shortle won 10-5 in the deciding set.
Corey Glocker (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) and Will Giles (LaVale, Md./Bishop Walsh) rounded out the McDaniel winners with an 8-6 win at third doubles.
Sixth singles was not finished due to darkness.
The Green Terror opens the spring at Shenandoah on Saturday, Feb. 28. Match time is 6:30 p.m.
