McCarthy wins second flight

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Satchel McCarthy won the second flight of singles to lead McDaniel at the King's Invitational in men's tennis action on Saturday and Sunday.

Alex Guthrie joined McCarthy as a pair of newcomers to make their Green Terror debuts with strong showings. Guthrie dropped his first match in the No. 1 singles flight to Oneonta's Mackenzie Park 6-3, 6-3 but worked his way back with three wins in the consolation bracket to take third place.

In the second flight, McCarthy needed three sets in two of his three victories. He opened with a 6-2 win in the first set against Benjamin Leighton (Oneonta) before Leighton notched a 7-5 victory to force a third-set super-tiebreaker, where McCarthy prevailed, 10-5.
