Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Washington (Md.) reeled off a stretch of eight straight goals to break open a 4-all game and defeat McDaniel 13-6 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) led the Green Terror (9-7, 5-4 CC) with two goals and two assists.
Corinne Zziccardi scored four goals to lead the Shorewomen (12-4, 5-4 CC), who will host McDaniel in the CC Tournament First-Round Game on Wednesday. Details on the game and entire conference tournament will be released on Monday following the pre-championship conference calls.
Knotted at 4-all after Anna Beaudry (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) finished a solo run with 2:50 to play in the first half, Ziccardi put Washington back in front at the break with 1:35 showing.
Liz Godorov pushed the lead to 6-4 nearly six minutes into the second half before free-position tallies from Emily Hubley and Ziccardi made it an 8-4 game with 20:42 remaining.
Two goals from Hubley and a goal and an assist from Mollie Shipley keyed four more tallies over an 11-minute, 41-second span to make it a 12-4 game with 7:11 to play.
Entrot hit a free-position goal to snap a stretch of 28:46 with a goal.
Ziccardi pushed the lead back to eight with 1:43 to play before Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) finished from Entrot 18 seconds later for the final margin.
Anna Molhenrich (Towson, Md./Mercy) scored off an Entrot feed 9:06 into the game for a 1-0 lead before Ziccardi evened the game 70 seconds later.
A Messersmith-to-Entrot connection 27 seconds later put the hosts back in front by one.
Marissa Restaino and Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) traded goals to keep it a one-goal advantage for McDaniel with 12:00 showing before Carly Eisenbrandt and Restaino scored 50 seconds apart for a 4-3 edge.
Game time on Wednesday is projected to be at 7 p.m. but will be announced officially on Monday.
