Christopher does yardwork for record

Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – With two on and two out in the top of the eighth, Pat Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) blasted a shot over the right-field fence for his 146th career hit, breaking a tie for the McDaniel career record and capping a 9-0 Centennial Conference (CC) baseball victory at Washington (Md.) on Tuesday.

Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) and Jonathan McKinney (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) each had two hits to lead the Green Terror (12-8, 2-1 CC) to its first shutout victory in Chestertown.

Bryan Baquer had three of the six hits for the Shoremen (10-12, 1-2 CC), who had two runners thrown out on the bases – one caught stealing and one by pickoff.

Back-to-back one-out doubles from Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) and Joe Fiore (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Beach) staked McDaniel to a 1 -0 lead in the top of the fourth.

An inning later, McKinney led off with a single up the middle before Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second.

A one-out walk to Christopher loaded the bases for Bahr, who drew another walk to force in McKinney and chase Washington starting pitcher Dan Jarrell after four hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Betts followed with a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 game.

A Hayward leadoff single, Christopher one-out walk and Bahr RBI single up the middle pushed the lead to 4-0 in the seventh.

With one out in the eighth, the bottom third of the Green Terror all singled.

Chad Nazelrod (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) poked a ball through the right side before taking second and third on a wild pitch.

Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) followed with an RBI knock to center before a McKinney single down the left-field line put runners at first and second.

A Tyler Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) single plated Sivo for a 6-0 lead before Christopher broke his tie with Russell Coover '10 for the final runs of the game.

Gio Fricchione (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern) finished off three innings of relief work to pick up his first save of the season and give Andrew Monger (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) his first win of the year on the mound. Monger threw six innings, allowing four hits and striking out three.

McDaniel returns to action at Penn State-Mont Alto on Thursday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
