Christopher records three hits

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – A four-run sixth inning propelled McDaniel to a game-one victory and a single run in game two gave the team a non-conference baseball sweep of Worcester State at the 2013 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Thursday.

Pat Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) led the Green Terror (9-5) with three hits in the twinbill, including a pair of knocks in the 4-3 opening-game win. McDaniel took game two, 1-0.

James Chiorello (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) went the distance on the mound in game one, fanning eight. Zach Jones (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) added a complete-game shutout in the nightcap, striking out nine.

Jeff Bolio led the Lancers (4-6) with two hits.

Trailing 1-0 after Nick Gezotis scored an unearned run in the first inning, Christopher reached on a one-out infield single in the sixth inning.

Two stolen bases and a hit batsman put runners at the corners for Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur), who doubled home Christopher to tie the game.

A Joe Fiore (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Beach) followed with an RBI to score Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) for a 2-1 lead.

Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) drew a walk to load the bases before Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) singled home Betts.

With the bases still loaded, Tyler Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) was hit by a pitch to force home Fiore for a 4-1 lead.

Kurt Sabachinski drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the seventh before scoring on a Zach George triple. Cody Osburn followed with an RBI ground to close the deficit to one but Chiorello got a pair of strikeouts for the final two outs of the game.

Hayward drew a walk to lead off the home fifth in game two before taking second on a passed ball and third on a sacrifice.

A two-out error allowed Hayward to score with the game's only run.

McDaniel concludes its Florida trip against Rutgers-Camden on Friday. Game time is 12 p.m.
