Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. – UMass-Boston rallied from a 5-0 deficit with seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to top McDaniel 7-6 at the 2013 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday.
Andrew Hofmeister (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) led the Green Terror (7-5) with two hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Tyler Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) added two hits.
Nick Brothers led the Beacons (3-5) with four hits and two runs scored from the leadoff spot.
Trailing 5-0, Tyler Kirwan drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the fifth before Brothers followed with a single through the right side.
Matt Consiglio singled home Kirwan before a Jamill Moquette walk and RBI fielder's choice from Charles LaPaglia made it a 5-2 game.
After LaPaglia stole second, Kurtis White singled home both runners to make it a 5-4 game and chase Andrew Monger (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) after six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
A two-out walk to Jose Pena and Todd Ezold double tied the game at 5-all.
Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) reached on an error to lead off the top of the sixth before stealing second.
A two-out single from Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) put the Green Terror back in front, 6-5.
Three straight singles to lead off the home half of the frame knotted the game before White singled home Moquette for the 7-6 lead.
A one-out infield single from Jackow coupled with a fielder's choice and error staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead in the third.
A second straight error pushed the lead to 2-0.
Joe Fiore (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Beach) led off the top of the fifth with a single before a wild pitch and bunt single from Jackow put runners at the corners.
A Sivo RBI groundout made it a 3-0 game before taking second on an error and scoring on a Hofmeister singe.
After Hofmeister stole second, a two-out double from Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) knocked him home for a 5-0 advantage.
Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) fanned three batters in his first work on the season on the hill, pitching the final three innings in relief.
McDaniel returns to action in a doubleheader against Worcester State on Thursday. The first game begins at 9:30 a.m.
