Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – No. 20 Susquehanna built a 13-2 halftime lead and staved off a furious McDaniel second-half rally to notch a 16-12 non-conference women's lacrosse victory on Wednesday.
Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) paced the Green Terror (6-11) with a pair of hat tricks in the team's final game of the season.
Emma Ehler led three three-goal performances for the Crusaders (13-1), adding an assist.
Keyed by three goals from Michelle McGinniss, Susquehanna jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the game's first 19:42. After a Brynn Reid-to-Erin Dyer connection with 27:12 to play, McGinniss scored twice in a 48-second span to make it a 3-0 game with 25:09 remaining in the first half.
Ally Bauer started her hat trick 41 seconds later before Ehler hit her first goal on a free-position attempt with 21:50 showing.
Messersmith and Entrot each finished solo runs 46 seconds apart to cut the deficit to 8-2 with 7:00 to play in the opening half before Bauer completed her hat trick to start another 5-0 run to the break.
Emma Jones stretched the lead to 14-2 with 25:14 to play in the second half before Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) found Entrot 1:17 later to start the rally.
Watkins added an unassisted goal with 22:37 to play before Mary Tokolish (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) finished a solo run with 20:52 on the clock to close the gap to 14-5.
Ehler stretched the advantage back to double digits on a free-position goal 42 seconds later before the Green Terror tallied seven of the game's final eight goals.
Watkins netted her second with 15:52 on the clock before Messersmith hit a free-position shot 1:05 later.
Steph Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) found Kerry Campbell (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) to make it a 15-8 game with 11:10 to play.
Nichols tallied her first goal of the season with 7:31 remaining before Messersmith closed the deficit to 15-10 at the 3:19 mark.
Ehler stretched the lead back to six 31 seconds later before Anna Beaudry (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) and Entrot set the final margin in the final 1:40.
McDaniel finished with a 38-31 advantage in shots, including 29-7 in the second half.
Messersmith added eight draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Nichols grabbed six ground balls and four draw control while Watkins had five ground balls.
