Jones goes distance in game two

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – McDaniel plated eight runs in the seventh inning of game two en route to completing a sweep of Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Saturday.

The Green Terror (19-8, 7-5 CC) scored three runs in the seventh of the opener for a 4-3 win before notching its seventh straight win and program record-tying 19th of the season with an 11-3 nightcap victory.

Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) led the offense with two hits in each game, adding three RBIs and two runs scored.

Both starting pitchers for McDaniel had strong outings. Danny Snight (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) went 8 2/3 innings with five strikeouts to improve to 5-2 in game one while Zach Jones (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) went the distance in game two with seven Ks to improve to 4-2.

Anthony Montalbano led the Garnet (18-12, 4-8 CC) with four hits.

Trailing 3-0 in game one, Christopher led off the sixth inning with a bunt single. With two outs, he took second on a wild pitch before scoring on a James Chiorello (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) double down the right-field line.

Jimmy Najera (Fort Washington, Md./DeMatha) led off the seventh with a single before a Chris Longo (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) walk put runners on second and third.

An error loaded the bases with no outs.

After a popout, Christopher doubled in Najera and Longo to knot the game before Ricky LaSota (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) plated PJ Anderson (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) two batters later for a 4-3 lead.

Snight allowed a two-out double in the night before giving way to Chiorello, who walked the first batter he faced but induced a groundball for his second save of the season.

A Mantalbano double, wild pitch and balk staked Swarthmore to a 1-0 lead in the third.

Three errors in the fifth around a Montalbano single stretched the lead to 3-0.

In game two, a Montalbano single and back-to-back one-out bunt singles loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth.

Rory McTear followed with a sacrifice fly before Danny McMahon scored on a Tim Kwilos stolen base.

The Green Terror responded in the fifth. Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) poked a one-out single through the right side before Longo drew a two-out walk.

Anderson and Tyler Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) followed with back-to-back RBI singles to knot the game at 2-all.

In the seventh inning, Betts drew a walk before taking second on a Najera sacrifice.

A error allowed Longo to reach and Betts to score for a 3-2 lead. Anderson drew a walk to chase starter Ramsey Walker. Luke Alventosa was greeted by a second error in the inning to load the bases for Christopher, who knocked a single through the right side to score Longo.

A third error allowed Hayward to reach and Anderson and Jackow to score for a 6-2 lead.

LaSota followed with a two-run single, stretching the lead to 8-2 and chasing Alventosa without getting an out.

Dylan Jeffers got the first batter he faced to fly out but Betts capped the eight-run frame with a two-run home run to left-center.

Anderson and Jackow singled to lead off the eighth before a fielder's choice and dropped fly ball stretched the lead to 11-2.

A Sam Menzin leadoff single and two errors before a Montalbano sacrifice fly set the final margin in the bottom of the inning.

The Green Terror will go for its first-ever 20-win season at home against Gettysburg on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
