Beaudry nets hat trick

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Haverford scored five of the game's final six points, including the game-winner with 44.6 seconds left in overtime, to defeat McDaniel 10-9 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Anna Beaudry (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) led the Green Terror (4-4, 1-1 CC) with three goals.

Josie Ferri tallied four goals to pace the Fords (3-5, 1-1 CC), adding three assists, including on the game-winning tally.

Trailing 8-5 on Beaudry's third with 19:49 to play in regulation, Dianna Perry converted a free-position shot with 18:31 on the clock to draw the visitors within two.

Jen Schmidt found Alexa Pesce just over four minutes later before scoring off a Ferri helper with 6:00 showing to knot the game at 8-all.

Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) found a cutting Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) with 5:35 to put McDaniel back in front.

Ferri, however, converted an eight-meter shot in a two men-up situation with 4:12 to play to even the game once again.

Playing man-up for the entire six-minute extra session after the Green Terror accumulated four yellow cards as a team in regulation, Haverford controlled possession in the first half but could not score.

The Fords needed until the final minute to pull in front.

McDaniel had a chance in the waning seconds but Monica Parcell's (Prospect Park, Md./Interboro) game-tying attempt sailed just wide of the cage.

Ferri finished from Pesce just 2:29 into the game for an early 1-0 lead before Beaudry responded with a solo run 46 seconds later to knot the game.

Two Ferri goals around a Perrin Downing marker gave Haverford a 4-1 lead with 15:56 to play in the opening half before Kaitlin Mahoney (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) sandwiched a Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) solo run with two unassisted goals in a 1-minute, 37-second span to pull the hosts even.

Downing put the Fords back on top 5-4, finishing a Ferri feed with 3:34 to play.

Bopst started a four-goal run at the start of the second half to turn the one-goal deficit into a three-goal lead.

Entrot finished from Mahoney between a pair of Beaudry goals.

McDaniel finished with a 29-15 advantage in shots and 23-18 edge in ground balls. The Green Terror also had a 15-8 advantage in draw controls, including three each from Messersmith and Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond).  Kaylee Hoover (Winter Garden, Fla./West Orange) led the defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

The Green Terror returns to action at Swarthmore on Tuesday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
