Box Score

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – McDaniel scored four runs in the eighth inning to break open a 2-1 game, defeating New Jersey City 7-1 at the 2012 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in non-conference baseball action on Sunday.

Zach Jones (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) went the distance on the mound for the Green Terror (4-3), striking out six batters for his first win of the season.

Matthew Wagner notched two hits for the Gothic Knights (1-2), who were limited to six hits.

Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) was hit by a pitch to lead off the second inning before Ricky LaSota (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) jacked a two-run shot over the left-field fence.

McDaniel reloaded the bases but New Jersey City's Delio Coutinho got out of further trouble with one of his 10 strikeouts.

Three straight singles from Wagner, Ryan Winters and Brian Bustillo loaded the bases for the Gothic Knights to open the fifth before McDaniel turned a double play, allowing Wagner to score to slice the deficit in half.

James Chiorello (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) led off the eighth inning with a solo home run before LaSota drew a one-out walk to chase Coutinho.

Kevin DeMauro got the first batter he faced but an error prolonged the inning.

Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) was hit by a pitch and Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) doubled down the left-field line to stretch the lead to 5-1.

A wild pitch scored Hayward to make it a 6-1 game.

An error, Jimmy Najera (Fort Washington, Md./DeMatha) stolen bases coupled with a ground ball and Betts sacrifice fly set the final margin in the top of the ninth.

Christopher finished with two hits and two RBIs while LaSota had a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs.

The Green Terror returns to action against Gordon on Monday. Game time is 9 a.m.
