Chiorello tosses three-hit shutout

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – McDaniel pitchers did not allow a run and struck out 19 batters in 14 innings to key a doubleheader sweep of Lesley in the opening games of both teams' trip to the 2012 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in non-conference baseball action on Saturday.

The Green Terror (3-3) took the opener 7-0 before James Chiorello (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) went the distance in game two, scattering three hits and striking out nine in a 5-0 win.

Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) led the squad offensively with four hits and three RBIs.

Ryan McQuade paced the Lynx (0-2) with three hits.

In the bottom of the first in game one, Tyler Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) rapped a one-out single to right field before a two-out error put runners at the corners.

Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) followed with a single to left, scoring Jackow for a 1-0 lead.

Jackow led off the third inning with an infield single before back-to-back one-out singles from Chiorello and Betts plated Jackow for a 2-0 advantage.

In the fourth, Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) drew a one-out walk before stealing second.

Christopher followed with a single to put runners at the corners.

Christopher swiped second before a passed ball allowed Hayward to score for a 3-0 lead.

With one out in the fifth, Betts drew the first of three straight walks. He stole second before Ricky LaSota (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) and Chris Longo (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) were issued free passes.

An error at the plate allowed Betts to score before Hayward was hit by a pitch to force in LaSota.

Christopher followed with a single to drive in Longo for a 6-0 advantage.

Jimmy Najera (Fort Washington, Md./DeMatha) and Mike Freeman (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) both walked to lead off the sixth before a passed ball and LaSota sacrifice fly allowed Najera to score.

Danny Snight (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) earned the win, striking out eight in four innings of work.

In game two, Hayward was hit by a pitch with one out in the third before stealing second and scoring on a Christopher double to the gap in left-center.

Christopher took third on a wild pitch before Najera drew a walk and stole second.

With two outs, consecutive wild pitches allowed the duo to score for a 3-0 lead.

A Najera leadoff infield single, stolen base and back-to-back groundouts stretched the advantage to 4-0 in the fifth.

PJ Anderson (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) reached on an error around singles from Tom Gallo (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) and Joe Fiore (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Beach) to lead off the sixth inning.

A fielder's choice cut down Gallo at the plate before Anderson scored on a Christopher groundball.

The Green Terror returns to action against New Jersey City on Sunday. Game time is 9:30 a.m.
