SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore won eight of the 11 events to key a 112-93 victory over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming opener for both teams on Saturday.
Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) won twice to lead the Green Terror (1-2, 0-1 CC), including touching first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.82.
Supriya Davis and Kate Wiseman paced the Garnet (1-0, 1-0 CC) with three wins each.
Davis and Wiseman joined Pooja Kumar and Nikkia Miller to open the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:54.12). Davis took the 200 free (2:02.62) and 100 butterfly (58.68) while Wiseman won the 50 free (25.05) and 100 free (54.85).
Jenny Grillo (Mt. Airy, Md./TLCI) registered McDaniel's other individual win, taking the 1000 freestyle in a time of 11:18.75, debuting in the eighth spot on the program's all-time top 10. She was also second in the 500 free with a time of 5:36.85.
Duesterhaus anchored the winning 200 free relay to ninth place on the program's all-time top 10. Emily Gross (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion), Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) and Caroline Sussman (Washington, D.C./Spring Ridge) joined Duesterhaus to swim a time of 1:44.64.
Schickler, Kerrie Vanscoy (Damascus, Md./Damascus), Brittney Lenz (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Kerrin Holmes (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) to finish second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:57.08.
Sussman added a second-place showing in the 100 (56.34) and 200 (2:02.62) free races.
Duesterhaus and Gross finished 2-3 in the 50 free with times of 25.98 and 26.98 seconds, respectively.
Vanscoy touched right after Duesterhaus in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.42.
Schickler posted a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.46.
Shannon McClellan (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) placed third in the 1,000 free with a time of 12:00.18 and 500 free with a time of 5:52.65.
Lexie Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) was third in the 200 IM (2:20.35) and Lenz was third in the 100 butterfly (1:04.40).
The Green Terror returns to action at Gettysburg on Wednesday. Meet time is 7 p.m.
