Box Score No. 7 Franklin & Marshall scores early and often in 19-5 win over McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Erin Dunne had a hand in the first three goals en route to a 5-goal, 1-assist day, leading No. 7 Franklin & Marshall to a 19-5 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Anna Beaudry (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) and Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) led the Green Terror (1-9, 1-4 CC) with two goals apiece.
Lauren Ehrhardt added three goals for the Diplomats (10-1, 4-0 CC), who raced out to an 8-1 lead in the game's first 21:48.
Dunne found a cutting Ehrhardt just 17 seconds into the game before tallying back-to-back markers, staking the visitors to a 3-0 lead before 2:33 had elapsed.
Watkins broke up the shutout with a solo run off the right side with 24:11 to play in the first half before Caroline Krohn sparked a five-goal flurry by five different Franklin & Marshall players.
Watkins capped a two-goal first half with a second unassisted tally with 7:33 to play before back-to-back Maggie Mae Shields free-position goals stretched the lead to 10-2 with 2:31 showing.
Dunne made it an 11-2 advantage in the final 15 seconds of the stanza.
Beaudry converted an 8-meter shot just 1:42 into the second half before Cat Serpe, who finished with two goals and two assists, pushed the lead back to eight just 1:12 later.
Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) finished off a Brittany Lines (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) feed just over a minute and a half later before Dunne sparked another 5-0 rally where she contributed a pair of goals.
Steph Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) sent a cross-field pass to Beaudry at restraining line before the sophomore midfielder beat everyone to the cage for her second of the day with 9:18 to play.
A Kara Stanley free-position tally and Lauren Selawski's second goal of the day in the final 3:50 set the margin.
Watkins also won three draw controls for McDaniel.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against No. 6 Gettysburg on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
