White fans 21 to lead Dickinson to 19-0 win over McDaniel

CARLISLE, Pa. – Sean White struck out a program- and Centennial Conference (CC)-record 21 batters and the Dickinson offense brought the bats to record a 19-0 CC baseball victory over McDaniel on Friday.

The junior lefty went the distance, allowing just four hits and becoming the first pitcher in the 18 years of CC baseball to break the 20-strikout barrier. White was one strikeout shy of the NCAA Division III record of 22, accomplished three times – most recently in 2003. Entering the 2011 season, only five other pitchers had fanned at least 21 in a single game.

White struck out the side four times in the contest, including fanning 12 of the final 15 batters to come to the plate.

Offensively, Tyler Rosa led the way with three hits, three runs scored and six RBIs for the Red Devils (16-13, 3-9 CC), who completed the season sweep of the Green Terror (10-14, 3-9 CC) one day after taking a 7-4 decision in Westminster.

Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney), Chris Longo (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury), Dan French (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) and Tyler Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) each had a single hit for McDaniel. Longo and Jackow were the only Green Terror starters who were not victims of one of White's strikeouts.

Mike Schuster, who also had three hits in the game, reached on a passed ball to lead off the bottom of the first. After a sacrifice bunt and two-out Rosa RBI single, Schuster scored the first of his four runs to stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead.

That would end up being all White would need. However, the offense provided some breathing room in the second, sending 10 men to the plate and scoring seven runs.

A one-out error led to four of the runs being unearned, including the final three, which came on a Rosa two-out, three-run home run.

Doubles from Evan Hennessy and Rosa in the fourth inning keyed a three-run frame that stretched the lead to 13-0.

Two errors and a James Santoro double helped the Red Devils tack on three more in the fifth before scoring five more in the sixth to set the final margin.

McDaniel is scheduled to return to action in a home doubleheader against Swarthmore on Saturday. The first game begins at 12:30 p.m.
