McDaniel gets to bullpen for 8-3 win over Penn State-Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. – James Chiorello (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs to lead McDaniel to an 8-3 victory over Penn State-Mont Alto in non-conference baseball action on Friday.

Knotted at 2-all, the Green Terror (7-5) made it 2-for-2 against the Penn State satellite campuses with a four-run eighth to enter Centennial Conference (CC) on a two-game winning streak.

Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) and Matthew Bodnar (Douglasville, Pa./Central Catholic) added two hits apiece for McDaniel.

The Lions (0-1) finished with a 10-9 advantage in the hits column.

Knotted at 2-all, Bodnar led off the top of the eighth with a single before Brandon Kline (Myersville, Md./Middletown) singled. An error made it second and third with no outs.

Betts followed with a two-run single to clear the bases.

After a groundout, Chiorello and Jimmy Najera (Fort Washington, Md./DeMatha) drew back-to-back walks to load the bases.

A Matthew Pace (Baltimore, Md./North County) bases-loaded walk forced home Betts before a Chris Longo (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) RBI groundout capped the four-run inning.

A Jason Staubs single, stolen base, error and balk drew the hosts within 6-3 in the bottom of the eighth before a Chiorello two-run single in the top of the ninth set the final margin.

Chiorello closed out the game with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth, striking out two batters.

A Chiorello single and three wild pitches staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead in the second before Ryan Chaney singled and scored after back-to-back singles in the bottom of the fourth.

A Pace home run once again gave the Green Terror a one-run advantage in the seventh but a Trevor Ile RBI single knotted the game in the bottom of the frame.

Derek Coy, the Lions' starter, struck out eight in six innings of work.

Andrew Monger (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) matched Coy with six innings on the hill, fanning five.
