McDaniel racks up runs

Box Score

Green Terror downs Stevens, 13-2

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Chris Longo (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs to lead to McDaniel to a 13-2 victory over Stevens in non-conference baseball action at the 2011 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Monday.

Brandon Kline (Myersville, Md./Middletown), Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) and Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) all added 3-for-5 showings for the Green Terror (3-3), who pounded out 17 hits in the team's most lopsided victory since a 24-9 win at Muhlenberg on Apr. 17, 2005.

Nine different batters each recorded a hit for the Ducks (1-4), who found themselves in a 12-1 hole after four innings.

Consecutive one-out singles from Betts, Christopher and James Chiorello (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

A Longo leadoff double and Ryan Byrnes (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) RBI single doubled the advantage in the second.

A Corey Linden RBI single drove in Shane Raymond to cut the deficit in half in the top of the third before the Green Terror plated four in the bottom of the frame.

Jimmy Najera (Fort Washington, Md./DeMatha) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before a Matthew Pace (Baltimore, Md./North County) double put runners at second and third for Longo, who doubled to left-center to stretch the lead to 4-1.

With two outs, Kline singled home Longo before stealing second and scoring on a throwing error.

Chiorello and Najera drew walks to lead off the home fourth.

With one out, a Longo single loaded the bases before Byrnes was hit by a pitch to force home Chiorello.

A Matthew Bodnar (Douglasville, Pa./Central Catholic) single to left scored Najera and Longo before Kline knocked in Byrnes for a 10-1 lead.

A Christopher triple two batters later cleared the bases, capping a six-run inning.

Singles from Ken Meerendonk and Ryan Kiczek coupled with a wild pitch and groundout pulled Stevens within 12-2 but a Kline double and Betts RBI single reestablished the 11-run advantage.

Gio Fricchione (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern) went 6 2/3 innings, striking out four to pick up his first win of the campaign.

Andrew Monger (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) fanned three of the four batters he faced before Chiorello worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts. The trio of pitchers did not issue a walk – the first time a Green Terror pitching staff did that in a nine-inning game since 2007.

McDaniel returns to action against Lawrence on Wednesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
