EMMITTSBURG, Md. – A pair of McDaniel freshmen notched individual victories in their first intercollegiate competition, leading their team to a split at Mount St. Mary's in a double-dual with Manhattan and New Jersey Institute of Technology in season-opening non-conference men's swimming action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (1-1) opened the season against a pair of Division I opponents, defeating the Highlanders (0-4) by a 140-40 margin while falling to the Jaspars (7-0), 133-69.
Five events into the meet, Stephen Hoyt (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:21.60.
Three events later, Jon Hartzel (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:18.38.
Patrick Rogers (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) and Hoyt finished second (9:33.34) and third (9:50.76), respectively, in the 800-meter freestyle.
The duo also went 2-3 in the 400-meter freestyle in times of 4:31.20 and 4:38.53, respectively.
James Eu (Reston, Va./Hargrave Military Academy) added second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:06.28 and 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:38.69.
Bryan Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) was second in the 50 (24.92) and 100 (55.59) freestyles.
James Harder (Philadelphia, Pa./Pennington) was second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:27.04.
The Green Terror returns to action in the home and Centennial Conference opener against Swarthmore on Saturday. Meet time is 2 p.m.
