Rosato pitches 8-plus strong to lead Green Terror
CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Brian Rosato (Narvon,
Pa./Pequea Valley) pitched into the ninth inning for his
first win of the season, leading McDaniel to a 4-3 Centennial
Conference (CC) baseball victory at Washington (Md.) on Friday.
The senior lasted a career-long eight innings for the Green
Terror (6-12, 2-8 CC) before freshman Gio Fricchione (New
Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern) faced three batters to nail
down the final three outs for his second save, snapping the
squad's five-game skid in the process.
Jimmy
Najera (Fort Washington, Md./DeMatha) keyed the
offense with a 4-for-4 showing that included a pair of doubles.
Ryan Mulhearn rapped out two hits for the
Shoremen (11-9, 6-4 CC), who were limited to three runs and 10 hits
just three days after lighting up the Green Terror for 16 runs and
22 hits.
Knotted at 2-all, Ray Hart (Cheverly,
Md./Suitland) drew a walk to lead off the eight
inning.
Tyler
Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) followed with a bunt
single before a fielder's choice on Kyle Pruitt's
(Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) sacrifice attempt loaded the
bases.
Back-to-back plays at the plate kept the bases loaded with two
outs before Russell Coover
(Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mountain) came through with a
double that dropped just out of the reach of a diving attempt by
the Shoremen center fielder, plating two for a 4-2 advantage.
Rosato gave up a pinch-hit single and walk before giving way to
Fricchione. Two ground outs pulled the hosts within 4-3.
Fricchione then got a strikeout to end the game.
A Sean Connole double and Ben
Jardoe two-out RBI single staked Washington to a 1-0 lead
in the bottom of the first before Coover went deep over the
left-field fence for the equalizer in the fifth.
A Brian Kramer single, sacrifice and
John Rolewicz RBI single once again gave the
Shoremen a one-run advantage in the bottom of the frame before a
Najera double, a single from Matthew Pace
(Baltimore, Md./North County) and RBI from Jackow evened
the game once again a half-inning later.
McDaniel returns to action in a doubleheader at home against
Muhlenberg on Saturday. The first game begins at 12:30 p.m.
