Bullets tally first six en route to 16-12 victory over
McDaniel
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Jessica Crane scored
three goals to lead No. 7 Gettysburg to a 16-12 victory over
McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse
action on Wednesday.
The Bullets (10-2, 4-0 CC) tallied the game's first six
goals to open up a 6-0 lead in the first 13:06 of the contest
before staving off a rally by the Green Terror (7-4, 1-3 CC) to
remain tied with Franklin & Marshall atop the conference
standings.
Brittany Baer (Manchester, Md./Westminster)
paced McDaniel with six goals and two assists to pull within two
goals of tying the Green Terror's all-time goal-scoring
record with 176 collegiate tallies. Baer added two assists to match
her career high with eight points.
Lexie Hearn opened the scoring, converting a
free-position goal 5:33 into the game.
Crane completed the first two-thirds of her hat trick 53 seconds
apart to stretch the lead to 3-0 at the 7:12 mark.
Lindsay Robinson finished a solo run just 33
seconds later before Lauren Woodman and
Nina Emala capped the opening flurry.
Brittany Lines (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) broke
up the shutout 14:01 into the game before Baer pulled the visitors
within 6-2 with 13:37 to play in the first half.
Crane completed her hat trick just over two minutes later before
Lines and Baer tallied 1:10 apart to make it a 7-4 game with 9:26
to play in the stanza.
Lindsay Menton and a pair of Hollis
Stahl goals stretched the lead to 10-4 with 3:03 showing
before Baer completed her hat trick 21 seconds later to make it a
10-5 game at the break.
Marnie Commins and Katie Levy
stretched the lead to 12-5 just 8:14 into the second half, scoring
five minutes apart.
The two teams exchanged goals over the next 14 minutes before
Sarah Mintz (Medfield, Mass./Medfield), Baer and
Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) all scored
in the final 1:20 to close the final deficit from seven to
four.
Ten different Gettysburg players found the back of the net in
the win.
Mintz added two goals and a career-high four assists for
McDaniel while Lines scored three times. Baer and Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) each won five draw
controls for the Green Terror, who finished with a 20-10 advantage
in the category.
McDaniel returns to action at Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game time
is 12 p.m.
