Trio of hat tricks lead Green Terror to 16-3 win over

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Brittany Baer (Manchester,
Md./Westminster) recorded three goals and an assist to
lead McDaniel to a 16-3 victory over Swarthmore in Centennial
Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Lisa Jurd (Columbia, Md./Hammond) and
Anna Beaudry (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional)
each added hat tricks for the Green Terror (7-3, 1-2 CC), who
scored 10 straight goals to turn a 5-2 lead midway through the
first half into a 15-2 advantage with more than 20 minutes to
play.
Three different players scored for the Garnet (6-3, 0-3 CC), who
got 13 saves from goalkeeper Allison Grein.
After Emily Evans staked Swarthmore to a 1-0
lead on a free-position goal 4:49 into the game, Beaudry responded
with back-to-back markers 29 seconds apart for a 2-1 McDaniel lead
with 10:43 elapsed.
A Baer free-position goal 45 seconds later stretched the lead to
3-1 before Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond)
finished the first of two Sarah Mintz (Medfield,
Mass./Medfield) assists and Paige Messersmith
(Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) converted unassisted 20 seconds
apart for a 5-1 lead at the 14:31 mark.
Amy Vachal momentarily broke up the run,
scoring with 13:52 to play in the opening half before Watkins
started the 10-goal run 32 seconds later that spanned 23 minutes, 8
seconds over both halves.
Baer, Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton
Wright) and Alison Rose (Jessup,
Md./Hammond) made it 9-2 at the break before Beaudry
completed her first career hat trick 1:37 into the second half.
Jurd scored all three of her goals in a 2-minute, 22-second span
for a 13-2 lead before Mintz and Baer capped the burst.
Marie Mutryn made it 15-3 on a free-position
goal with 12:23 to play before Kaitlin Mahoney (Port
Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) tallied her first
collegiate marker with 2:122 to play to set the final margin.
McDaniel finished with a 39-17 advantage in shots and 15-6 edge
in draw controls. Messersmith won five of the Green Terror's
draws.
The Green Terror returns to action at No. 6 Gettysburg on
Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
