Fords plate 19 in nightcap to complete sweep
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Mike Galetta went a
combined 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored to lead
Haverford to a doubleheader sweep of McDaniel in Centennial
Conference (CC) baseball action on Saturday.
The Fords (14-8, 6-2 CC) took the opener 6-1 before rapping out
23 hits in a 19-6 victory in game two to hand the Green Terror
(5-11, 1-7 CC) its fourth loss in the last three days.
After a Brandon Kline (Myersville,
Md./Middletown) double and Patrick Christopher
(Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) sacrifice fly stake
McDaniel to a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game one,
Jake Kaden reached on an infield single with one
out in the fourth.
A walk and Jeremy Zoll RBI fielder's
choice evened the game at 1-all.
After Zoll stole second, Galetta rapped a single to center to
give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
A hit batter, stolen base and successful squeeze play stretched
the lead to 3-1 an inning later before a single, walk and two-out
error made it a 5-1 game.
A Galetta double and Alex Hudak triple in the
sixth set the final margin.
Jonny Williams scattered three hits and struck
out four in the complete-game win for Haverford.
Kline led off game two with a single before an Andrew
Worm (Easton, Md./Easton) bunt single and Christopher
sacrifice put runners at second and third with one out.
Russell Coover (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue
Mountain) knocked home Kline for a 1-0 lead before four
walks keyed a five-run bottom of the inning.
After two walks, Galetta bombed a two-out, three-run home run to
right-center to give his team a 3-1 advantage.
Walks to Hudak and Charlie Carluccio around a
Bobby Hubley single loaded the bases for
Bobby Bailey, who delivered a two-run single
through the left side for a 5-1 lead.
Ray Hart (Cheverly, Md./Suitland) belted a
two-run home run in the second inning made it a 5-2 game but
Caluccio keyed a three-run third with a two-run double down the
right-field line.
Already leading 8-4 after the Green Terror plated two in the
sixth, the Ford counted with five more in the bottom of the frame
that included a Hudak three-run home run.
A single run in the seventh and five more in the eighth made it
19-4 before a James Ways (Westminster, Md./Winters
Mill) two-run blast in the ninth set the final margin.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Washington (Md.) on
Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
