Green Terror downs Bryn Mawr 20-5 in finale
BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Stephanie Serbun (Abington,
Pa./Abington) scored three goals and added an assist to
lead McDaniel to a 20-5 victory over Bryn Mawr in Centennial
Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (10-6, 4-5 CC) received goals from 12 different
players to close out the season with a victory.
Miranda Gordon-Zigel scored two of the five
goals for the Owls (1-14, 0-9 CC), who were outshot 42-14 in the
game.
Brittany Baer (Manchester, Md./Westminster) and
Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright)
staked McDaniel to a 2-0 lead in the game's first 3:24 before
Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) stretched
the lead to 3-0 off the second of four Sarah Mintz
(Medfield, Mass./Medfield) assists 4:23 later.
After Gordon-Zigel trimmed the deficit to 3-1 just 31 seconds
later, Scheler finished a solo run to spark a 7-0 run that pushed
the lead to 10-1 with 8:05 to play in the opening half.
Serbun had two goals during the stretch.
Hannah Lehman momentarily halted the stretch
with 6:55 to play in the first stanza but another 6-0 stretch that
spanned both halves pushed the lead to 16-2 with 16:05 to play.
Lisa Jurd (Columbia, Md./Hammond) scored twice
in a 2-minute, 52-second span that stretched a 12-2 halftime
advantage to 14-2 with 8:09 elapsed in the second half.
Two Kaitlin Mahoney (Port Jefferson Station,
N.Y./Comsewogue) tallied in a 1-minute, 26-second span
gave the visitors a 20-4 lead before Gabby
Maraggell found the back of the net with 33 ticks left for
the final score.
