Seventh-ranked Blue Jays belt five homers in 16-6 win at
McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Brian Youchak went
4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored to
lead No. 7 Johns Hopkins to a 16-6 victory over McDaniel in
Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Friday.
The Blue Jays (16-3, 5-0 CC) rapped out 20 hits, including five
round trippers, to notch their second win over the Green Terror
(5-9, 1-5 CC) in as many days.
Andrew Worm (Easton, Md./Easton) had three of
McDaniel's 10 hits, adding two runs scored.
A leadoff two-base error put Sam Wernick on
base in the top of the first inning.
After back-to-back strikeouts, Dave Kahn
reached on a slow-rolling infield hit to put runners at the corners
before a passed ball allowed Wernick to score.
Jesse Sikorski just cleared the left-field wall
on a 2-0 pitch to stretch the lead to 3-0.
A Kahn sacrifice fly and two-run double from John
Swarr keyed a four-run third inning that stretched the
lead to 7-0.
A Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John
Vianney) two-run double trimmed the deficit to 7-3 in the
bottom of the frame but a Chris Huisman double and
Kahn sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth pushed the lead to 8-3.
After Worm reached on a two-out infield single in the home
fifth, an error and Russell Coover (Schuylkill Haven,
Pa./Blue Mountain) single up the middle and
Matthew Pace (Baltimore, Md./North County) single
made it an 8-6 game.
However, three home runs before an out was recorded in the sixth
accounted for a four-run frame that gave Johns Hopkins a 12-6 lead.
Youchak's second home run, a Kahn triple and RBI singles
from Sikorski and Aaron Borenstein pushed the lead
to 15-6 in the eighth before a two-out walk turned into a 16th run
in the ninth.
McDaniel returns to action in a doubleheader at Haverford on
Saturday. The first game of the twinbill begins at 12:30 p.m.
