Bears hand McDaniel second loss, 7-4
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Elizabeth Cannon
recorded two goals and three assists to lead Ursinus to a 7-4
victory over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's
lacrosse opener for both teams on Saturday.
The Bears (5-2, 1-0 CC) built a 7-1 lead through the game's
first 49 minutes, 35 seconds before the Green Terror (6-2, 0-1 CC)
tallied three times in the final 6:31, including both of
Anna Beaudry's (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional)
two markers.
Neither team scored over the first 12 minutes of the game before
Kim Peifer broke up the double shutout, finishing
a solo run 12:06 into the game.
Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) evened
the game 4 minutes, 22 seconds later before Ursinus reeled off six
straight.
Cannon contributed to all three of the Bears' goals in the final
6:33 of the first half, starting the run with a goal before adding
assists on the next two.
Goals from Lindsay Urban and Cannon nearly 10
minutes apart stretched the lead to 6-1 midway through the second
half before Urban capped the six-goal stretch.
Brittany Baer (Manchester, Md./Westminster)
broke McDaniel's 37-minute, 1-second drought with her only tally of
the game, the first time since Mar. 27, 2008 at Ursinus that she
had not recorded a multi-goal contest – a stretch of 35
games.
Beaudry recorded two goals in the final 1:53 to set the final
margin.
McDaniel returns to action at home against No. 3 Franklin &
Marshall on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
