WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel will travel to Newport News, Va.,
for the 2010 NCAA Division III women's basketball first and second
rounds, beginning on Friday.
Playing at the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher
Newport, the Green Terror (20-6) will play Roanoke (23-3) in the
first round on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The host Captains (28-0) face
Washington and Lee (18-9) in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m.
The winners will meet in Saturday's second round. Game time is 7
p.m.
Admission is $8 for reserved seating, $6 for general admission
and $3 for students, senior citizens and children.
McDaniel is making its fifth NCAA tournament appearance after
winning its fourth Centennial Conference (CC) championship on
Sunday. The Green Terror defeated Muhlenberg 72-58 in the title
game for its 20th win of the season - the seventh time the team has
reached 20 wins since 2001 but first since going 23-4 in 2006-07,
when McDaniel earned the program's only at-large bid to the NCAA
tournament.
Roanoke earned an at-large bid to the tournament after falling
to Virginia Wesleyan in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)
semifinals on Saturday.
Christopher Newport is one of two undefeated teams in Division
III women's basketball and enters the tournament after winning the
USA South championship with an 82-70 win over Ferrum.
Washington and Lee enters the tournament after winning the ODAC
championship over Virginia Wesleyan, 64-56.
Ali Moreland (Davidsonville, Md./South River)
leads the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) and steals (63) while ranking
second in assists (77) and field-goal percentage (.448). She is
also fourth in rebounding (4.5 rpg).
Katelyn Fischer (Reisterstown, Md./Seton
Keough) ranks second on the team in scoring (10.5 ppg) and
3-pointers (34) while leading the team in assists (86) and
field-goal percentage (.479).
Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti)
ranks third on the team in scoring (10.4 ppg), leading the team in
both rebounding (6.4 rpg) and blocked shots (52).
