McDaniel opens Florida trip with win

Green Terror plates 15 to even record

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Brandon Kline (Myersville, Md./Middletown) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored to lead McDaniel to a 15-6 victory over Hamilton at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in non-conference baseball action on Sunday.

The Green Terror (1-1) played six runs in the top of the first inning to open up an early lead and cruising to a victory to even its overall record one game into the now six-game Florida trip.

Alex Augustyn led the Continentals (0-1) with a 3-for-5 outing, including an RBI and run scored.

After Kline drew a lead off walk, Kyle Pruitt (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) reached on a fielder's choice in which both runners were safe.

A Russell Coover Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mountain) double cleared the bases before Matthew Pace (Baltimore, Md./North County) and Sergio Nieto (Mameroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck)  drew back-to-back walks to load the bases.

After a groundout produced a run, Dan Wawrzusin (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) drew another walk to re-load the bases before Ray Hart (Cheverly, Md./Suitland) singled home Pace.

Patrick Christopher (Union Bridge, N.J./St. John Vianney) added a bases-loaded walk to stretch the lead to 5-0 before a Kline sacrifice fly plated Wawrzusin.

Single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, including a Justin Atwood RBI triple in the third cut the deficit in half before the Green Terror exploded for nine runs over the next two innings.

In the top of the fifth, McDaniel sent 12 batters to plate and notched six singles for its second six-run inning of the game.

A Kline RBI double two-out error in the sixth produced three more tallies in the sixth for a 15-3 lead.

Samuel Choate notched an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth before four walks and an Augustyn single accounted for Hamilton's two runs in the eighth.

Danny Snight (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) evened his record at 1-1, pitching the first five innings and allowing three runs with five strikeouts.

The Green Terror returns to action against FDU-Florham on Monday. Game time is 10:30 a.m.
