Rogers leads way with pair of all-time top-10 times
LANCASTER, Pa. – Patrick Rogers (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) recorded a pair of all-time top-10 times to lead McDaniel to a sixth-place finish at the 2010 Franklin & Marshall Invitational in men's swimming action on Saturday and Sunday.
The Green Terror finished with 195 points in the nine-team invitational. Gettysburg won the two-day event, easily outdistancing the second-place host Diplomats by a 798-662 margin.
Rogers, in addition to swimming leadoff on all four McDaniel relays, recorded an individual 10th-place showing in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.02, which ranks fourth all-time for the Green Terror. He was also 10th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.18, which is seventh on the all-time list.
Morgan DeHart (Salisbury, Md./Wiciomico) recorded McDaniel's top individual finish, touching sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.39. He was also 12th in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.66) and 16th in the 200 IM (2:08.22).
Chris Steinheimer (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) notched the only other individual top 10 for the Green Terror, touching eighth in the 1,650 free (18:17.06). He was also 14th in the 500 free (5:10.18) and 16th in the 200 free (1:54.70).
Bryan Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) led the way in the sprints with a 10th-place finish in the 50 free (22.67 seconds) and 13th-place showing in the 100 free (50.13). He was also 14th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.97 seconds.
Jono Leafblad (Garnee, Ill./Warran Twp.) added a pair of 11th-place finishes. He completed the 100 butterfly in a time of 57.28 seconds and the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:24.94.
Jason Harder (Philadelphia, Pa./Pennington) was 11th in the 200 butterfly (2:15.63) while adding a 15th-place finish in the 100-yard version of the event (58.69).
Jesse Mills (Catonsville, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) rounded out the individual scorers for McDaniel with a 14th-place finish in the 100 butterfly (58.03 seconds).
Rogers, DeHart, Mills and Nuckles combined to finish fifth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:32.97 while Rogers, DeHart and Nuckles joined Steinheimer to finish fifth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:25.46.
Rogers, DeHart, Leafblad and Nuckles teamed in the two medley relays. The quartet was fifth in the 400 (3:48.61) and sixth in the 200 (1:43.61).
The Green Terror returns to action in the home opener against Dickinson on Jan. 15. Meet time is 2 p.m.
