OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Lauren Zegowitz
tallied four goals to lead Stevenson to a 15-11 victory over
McDaniel in non-conference women's lacrosse action on
Thursday.
Megan Weiss, Kristyna Hnizda and
Mandi Carr each added three goals apiece for the
Mustangs (7-5), who sealed the victory with the final three goals
after the Green Terror (7-6) pulled within 12-10 on
Brittany Baer's (Westminster,
Md./Westminster) fourth goal of the game with 9:32 to
play.
Baer's final goal was her 61st of the season,
leaving her two shy of matching her own program record for goals in
a season that she set last year.
With her team trailing 10-7, Baer completed her 12th hat
trick of the season with 24:23 to play to start a three-goal flurry
over a 1-minute, 40-second span.
Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) and
Jennifer Stone (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven)
completed the stretch. Lindsey McDonald (Germantown,
Md./Damascus) added two of her three assists in the
span.
With 19:28 to play, Carr gave Stevenson the lead for good with an
unassisted marker before Hnizda stretched the lead to two off a
Lisa Baker helper nearly six minutes
later.
Baer's free-position shot closed the deficit to one but Weiss
tallied 1:20 later before making it two straight with 55 seconds to
play.
Brittany Hilton set the final margin, finishing a
solo run 20 seconds later.
Brittany Lines (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) opened
the scoring 2:40 into the game before Baer doubled the early Green
Terror advantage a minute later.
Hnizda and Zegowitz evened the game by the 20:40 mark before Baer
re-established the McDaniel advantage 18 seconds
later.
Four minutes later, Zegowitz converted a free-position shot to even
the game before Carr gave the Mustangs their first lead at the
15:30 mark.
Stone sandwiched a Weiss tally to even the game at 5-all with 9:04
to play in the opening half but Stevenson reeled off the next three
goals to take an 8-5 lead with 3:16 remaining until
halftime.
Ferruzzi closed the deficit to two 13 seconds before the
intermission but Zegowitz stretched the lead back to three 1:30 on
the other side of the break.
Alison Rose's (Jessup, Md./Hammond) first
career goal at the 26:19 mark trimmed the deficit to two once again
but Carr pushed the lead out to three nearly a minute
later.
Ferruzzi added four draw controls and three ground balls for the
Green Terror, who outshot the hosts 41-32 and held a 27-16
advantage in ground balls.
McDaniel returns to action at Haverford on Saturday. Game time is 1
p.m.
