ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Allie
Zerhusen recorded three goals and an assist, including two
of the final three goals to help 15th-ranked St.
Mary's (Md.) overcome a 10-7 deficit and defeat McDaniel
11-10 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday.
Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led
the Green Terror (2-1) with five goals and an assist.
Lauren Carrier added three goals for the Seahawks
(4-1), who also got 10 saves from Colleen
Simpson.
After Baer tallied back-to-back unassisted goals to stretch the
McDaniel advantage to three with 14:17 to play, Emily
Norris converted a free-position goal with 8:05 on the
clock to pull the hosts within two.
Zerhusen finished a solo run with 6:37 to play and Carrier
completed her hat trick with 2:34 showing to knot the game at
10-all.
Kelsey Branch found Zerhusen for her
16th goal of the season with 28 ticks remaining for the
game-winner.
Stephanie Sudbook (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven)
finished a Lindsay McDonald (Germantown,
Md./Damascus) helper 4:10 into the game to stake the Green
Terror to an early 1-0 lead.
Three different Seahawks scored over a 3-minute, 42-second span to
give St. Mary's a 3-1 lead with 14:11 to play in the opening
half.
Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright)
pulled McDaniel within 3-2 nearly four minutes later before Carrier
stretched the lead back to two at the 10:27 mark.
Two Baer goals and a Kristin Mele (Ellicott City, Md./River
Hill) tally off McDonald's third assist of the game
gave the visitors a 4-3 edge with 6:53 to play in the
half.
Zerhusen knotted the game at 5-all 1:01 before halftime before
Branch gave the Seahawks a one-goal edge 5:01 into the second
half.
There straight Green Terror goals made it an 8-6 game with 17:39 to
play before Nikki Yesalavage trimmed the deficit
to one with 16:57 showing.
Baer added five draw controls while Leanne Hollinger
(Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made 12 saves in
goal.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Elizabethtown on
Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
