WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown,
Pa./Jenkintown) recorded four of her game-high five goals
in the first half to stake McDaniel to an 8-5 halftime advantage
over Lycoming en route to a 12-11 non-conference women's
lacrosse victory on Tuesday.
Lindsey McDonald (Germantown, Md./Damascus) added
four points on a goal and three assists for the Green Terror (4-2),
who also got two goals and an assist from Brittany Baer
(Westminster, Md./Westminster).
Crystal Cody led the Warriors (2-3) with three
goals of her own.
Trailing 2-0 after just 3 minutes, 39 seconds had elapsed, McDonald
converted a free-position shot with 25:47 remaining in the first
half to pull the hosts within one.
A Ferruzzi natural hat trick over a 6-minute, 6-second span gave
McDaniel a 4-2 advantage with 16:08 showing. Baer and McDonald each
had an assist in the stretch.
Nearly five minutes later, Bri Robertson halted
the four-goal spurt before Ferruzzi and Kelly Scheler
(Forest Park, Md./C. Milton Wright) went back-to-back to
push the Green Terror lead to three with 5:53 to play in the
opening stanza.
Justine Titko pulled the hosts within 6-4 but Baer
and Scheler stretched the lead to four before Grace
Garguilo closed the deficit to 8-5 at the
intermission.
Trailing 10-6 with 18:26 to play in the contest, Robertson
converted a Kelli Morsey feed and Amanda
Baker finished a Robertson helper to slice the deficit in
half just 2:38 later.
Erinn Hopkins (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) finished a
solo run at the 12:08 mark before Amanda Baker and
Titko made it a one-goal game with fewer than six minutes to
play.
Ferruzzi capped her five-goal day 1:27 later before Cody completed
her hat trick and set the final margin with 2:30 on the
clock.
Leanne Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill)
made 12 saves in goal for the Green Terror, who improved to 3-1 in
one-goal games only six games into the year.
McDaniel opens the Centennial Conference schedule at home against
Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 12 p.m.
