WESTMINSTER, Md. – Brittany Baer (Westminster,
Md./Westminster) capped her fourth hat trick in as many
games this season, breaking a 10-all deadlock with 42.8 seconds
remaining and lifting McDaniel to an 11-10 victory over
Elizabethtown in non-conference women's lacrosse action on
Tuesday.
For the Green Terror (3-1), it was the third consecutive one-goal
game and in each contest the game-winning goal was scored in the
final 1:12.
Jennifer Stone (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) and
Kelly Scheleer (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright)
also added three-goal performances while Lindsey McDonald
(Germantown, Md./Damascus) added two goals and two
assists. Baer also had two helpers.
Katie Foley led the Blue Jays (2-1) with four
goals and an assist.
Trailing 10-9 after Elizabethtown reeled off four straight goals,
Scheler finished a Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown,
Pa./Jenkintown) feed with 2:49 to play to knot the
game.
After Stone won the ensuing draw control, the Green Terror
possessed the ball until McDonald found Baer in the front of the
cage for her 17th tally of the season and
McDonald's 12th assist.
The Blue Jays' Stephanie Kreis had a chance
to even the game in the final 30 seconds but Leanne
Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made her
15th save of the game to preserve the
victory.
Elizabethtown, behind goals from Megan Byrnes and
Anna Ford 33 seconds apart, opened up a 2-0 lead
just 1:57 into the contest before Scheler finished a solo run to
pull the hosts within one midway through the period.
Two straight Foley goals stretched the lead to 4-1 with 9:18 to
play in the opening half but the Green Terror reeled off five
straight over the final 1:22 of the first half and first 6:15 of
the second to take a 6-4 advantage.
McDonald had both tallies in the first half while Stone capped the
burst with two of her goals. Baer evened the game at 4-all just 50
ticks into the second stanza.
A Scheler unassisted goal sandwiched between tallies by Foley and
Byrnes made it a 7-6 game with 16:55 to play.
With 13:26 showing, Baer lobbed a pass to Stone over a defender and
Stone converted to stretch the lead back to two before Baer
converted a free-position shot 31 seconds later to push the lead to
9-6.
A Maria DeMatteo free-position goal 33 seconds
later started a three-goal flurry over a 2-minute, 16-second span
that pulled the Blue Jays even.
Katie Caprinolo hit a free-position shot with 3:40
to play, giving Elizabethtown its final lead before the late
McDaniel rally.
Baer added five draw controls and six ground balls while Ferruzzi
had four draw controls.
The Blue Jays finished with a 32-20 advantage in shots and 30-19
edge in ground balls.
McDaniel returns to action at Catholic on Thursday. Game time is 4
