Box Score Green Terror nets first 12 en route to second straight big
win
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Ali Moreland (Davidsonville,
Md./South River) recorded 15 points, seven assists, three
steals and two blocked shots to pace McDaniel in a 69-48 win over
Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) women's
basketball action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (2-4, 2-2 CC) jumped on the Diplomats (5-1, 2-1
CC) early, tallying the game's first 12 points before the visitors
finally broke up the shutout 5 minutes, 10 seconds into the game.
Alexa Barbush and Amy
Chabitnoy netted 10 points apiece to lead Franklin &
Marshall, which dropped its first game of the season after starting
5-0 for the first time since 1992-93.
McDaniel recorded assists on 24 of its 31 baskets, including
seven helpers each from Moreland and Katelyn Fischer
(Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough). For Moreland, it was the
second time in her career she had seven assists in a game while
Fischer established a new best in her rookie season.
Using Fischer as the primary passer, the Green Terror had
assists on each of its first six baskets, including four helpers
from the freshman point guard. Ashley Lyles (Laurel,
Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) and Cara Thompson
(Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) had four points apiece
while Moreland and Catherine Mills (Ijamsville,
Md./Urbana) had two each.
The Diplomats closed to within 15-7 with 9:38 to play but
another 18-8 run, capped by a Sally Grace (Catonsville,
Md./Mount de Sales Academy) 3-pointer in the left corner,
swelled the lead to 18 with 3:23 to play in the first half.
Holding a 37-22 halftime advantage, six straight McDaniel points
stretched the lead to 43-22 with 17:08 to play.
A fast-break layup from Emma Adams (Oneida,
N.Y./Oneida), Lyles jumper and Grace triple stretched the
lead to 58-30 with 10:30 showing and the visitors got no closer
than the final margin of 21.
Thompson finished with 10 points and six rebounds while
Whitney Snoops (Millersville, Md./Archbishop
Spalding) added eight points and a game-high seven boards
off the bench.
Lyles contributed six points, six rebounds and two blocked shots
while Mills had four points and career-high five assists.
McDaniel returns to action at Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Game time
is 2 p.m.
