COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Mark Jaskowski ran
for 148 yards, including 79 and two touchdowns as part of a
23-point fourth quarter that led Ursinus to a 26-7 victory over
McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) football action on
Saturday.
The Bears (3-4, 2-3 CC), who trailed 7-3 entering the
final quarter, turned three Green Terror turnovers deep in its own
end into 20 points to rally for their third consecutive victory in
the series.
T.J. Develin (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown
Area) paced McDaniel (2-5, 1-4 CC) with 47 rushing yards
and a touchdown. He also added 15 receiving yards and nine yards in
the return game for 71 all-purpose yards.
Taking over at the Green Terror27 on a Billy
Stolle interception with 14:05 remaining in the contest, a
McDaniel pass interference call in the end zone on second-and-10
set Ursinus up at the 12-yard line.
A Jaskowski 11-yard ran moved the ball inside the one-yard
line where Nicholas Dye punched it in for a 9-7
lead. Greg Zara's PAT made it a 10-7 game
with 13:17 to play.
A three-and-out followed by a 25-yard punt allowed
Al Desiderio to return the ball 42 yards to the
McDaniel 9.
A Bears holding call wiped out a second Dye touchdown but
Zara converted from 32 yards out to push the lead to 13-7.
On the Green Terror's next play from scrimmage, a
fumble gave Ursinus a first down at the McDaniel 29.
Jaskowski broke off a run down the left sideline for 26
yards and then punched it in from three yards out but a missed
extra-point kept it a 19-7 game with 8:34 to play.
A sack on McDaniel's next play that resulted in a
fumble once again gave the Bears a short field and Jaskowski needed
just three plays and 1 minute, 21 seconds to cover 10 yards to set
the final margin.
After a bad snap on a punt deep in the Green
Terror's end, McDaniel took over at its own four-yard line.
One play later, Develinwent around the left end and Jay
Leonard (Westminster, Md./Westminster) converted the
extra-point attempt for a 7-0 lead.
Having only penetrated on the Green Terror side of
midfield once on its first six possessions, Ursinus used a 35-yard
Dye-to-Desiderio connection to set up a first down at the McDaniel
8 with 13.1 seconds on the first half clock.
After a pair of incomplete passes, Zara connected on a
25-yard field goal to make it a 7-3 game at intermission.
Ursinus finished with a 268-214 advantage in total
offense, including 80-17 over the first 12:26 of the fourth
quarter.
Mike Weick (Holland, Pa./Penn
Charter) and Aaron Slaughter (Baltimore,
Md./Loyola) led the McDaniel defense with 13 and 10
tackles, respectively.
The Green Terror returns to action at Franklin &
Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
