GREENWOOD, Ind. - The McDaniel College women's tennis team had four players named to the Academic All-District® Women's Tennis Team selected by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.
Junior
Emma Janisch, junior
Emily Goodfellow, sophomore
Jillian Lasher, and sophomore
Stephanie Buttons each earned their first career Academic All-District® honor.
The Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must meet the following criteria:
- Must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
- Must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
- Must be in the lineup for 75 percent of an institution's days of competition.
Janisch is a English and Writing and Publishing double major with a perfect 4.00 GPA. She was one of three players to appear in all eight of the team's matches, playing in all eight at No. 3 singles. She also appeared in six doubles matches, including on at No. 2 doubles and five at No. 3 doubles.
Goodfellow is a Chemistry major with a 3.73 GPA. She also appeared in all eight of the team's matches, playing in five at No. 3 singles and three at No. 4 singles. She also played in eight doubles matches with four different partners at No. 2 doubles.
Lasher is a Kinesiology major with a 3.72 GPA. She played in all eight of the team's matches as well, playing in all eight at No. 2 singles. She was also one of just two players to play in all eight matches in doubles, including seven at No. 1 doubles with Buttons. She led the team with four doubles victories.
Buttons is a Criminal Justice and Political Science double major with a 3.69 GPA. She led the team with six singles victories, posting a 6-1 record, and ranked second with three doubles victories, teaming with Lasher each. A two-sport athlete, she also earned Academic All-District honors in volleyball.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Tuesday, June 2.
