Leone, Johnson Earn USFTCCCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. - On Wednesday, McDaniel College women's indoor track & field junior Sophia Leone and senior Ameerah Johnson both received All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Leone and Johnson are the first Green Terror to earn all-region honors indoors since Katie Morgan in the 400 meters in 2024.

The top-8 individuals in each event from each region on the year-end Descending Order Lists earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-8 relay teams.

All-Region honors for indoor track & field in Division III started in 2016. Since then, the Green Terror have earned five, including Leone, Johnson, and Morgan as well as Sarah Case (shot put) and Gabrielle Collins (60 meters) in 2022.

Leone ranked eighth in the region in the pole vault with a program record mark of 3.47 meters at the Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. She finished second and received All-Centennial Conference Second Team honors, earning the first silver medal in the pole vault for the Green Terror since Jen Bruce in 2002.

Johnson ranked seventh in the weight throw with a program record mark of 15.30 meters at the conference championships. She received honorable mention honors after finishing third. She became the first Green Terror to medal in the weight throw in program history.
