Leone, Johnson Lead on Day One at Conference Championships

LANCASTER, Pa. - The McDaniel College women's indoor track & field team traveled to Franklin & Marshall for day one of the 2026 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

After day one, the Green Terror sit in seventh place with 20.5 points. Junior Sophia Leone leads the scoring with eight points. Johns Hopkins finished the day in first place with 82.5 points.

Leone reset her own program record and placed second in the pole vault with a jump of 3.47 meters. This is Leone's second medal at the indoor conference championship after earning bronze last year. This also marks the first silver medal for the Green Terror in the pole vault since Jen Bruce in 2002.

Senior Ameerah Johnson placed third in weight throw. She reset her own program record with a mark of 15.30 meters, beating her previous best by 2.46 meters. This is the first medalist in the weight throw in program history.

Junior Michaela Carney placed fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.17 meters while sophomore Tara Hornung placed 10th with a jump of 3.02 meters. First-year Allison Kapustka placed 12th with a mark of 3.02 meters to move into fourth in program history. Senior Allie Rolek placed 17th with a jump of 2.57 meters and senior Summer James jumped 2.42 meters to place 20th.

The distance medley relay team of senior Anna Kale, first-year Isabel Meadows-Soto, senior Piper Nagaraj, and first-year Evie Eggers placed sixth with a time of 13:42.71.

Senior Anna Rando had a time of 9.68 seconds to place seventh in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, advances to the finals. Her time moves her into second in program history. She also placed 16th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.27 seconds.

Sophomore Gabby Demarco placed ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.98 meters and junior Maya Colavito placed 10th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:33.37.

Senior Kate Principio placed 19th in the weight throw with a mark of 10.47 meters.

The second and final day of the Centennial Conference championships on Sunday begin at 11 a.m.
