Nine Place Winners Lead No. 23 McDaniel at Ober Invitational

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The No. 23 McDaniel College men's wrestling team had nine place winners highlight the team's competition at the Ken Ober Invitational hosted by Elizabethtown on Saturday.

The Green Terror finished second out of nine teams with 151 points, just eight behind the host Blue Jays who are currently ranked 13th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Tournament Top 25.

In addition to its nine place winners, McDaniel had three more wrestlers advance to the seventh-place matches which were not contested.

Leading the way were seniors Thomas Monn and Andre Allen who finished first at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively.

Monn, who became the program's career wins leader on Friday night versus Muhlenberg, won his 15th career tournament title and fourth this season. Ranked second in the nation and first in Region 3, he went 4-0 with four bonus-point wins, including an 11-1 major decision in the finals over Messiah's Levi Snyder who is currently ranked sixth in Region 3.

Monn is now 29-0 this season and 19-0 in tournaments with 27 bonus-point wins, including 16 falls. He now boasts a career record of 131-11, a mark of 73-10 in tournaments, and 60 falls, tying the program record held by Brock Glotfelty '11 and Charlie Conaway '00.

For Allen, it was his first career tournament title and fifth top 5 finish. His previous best was a third-place showing at the Blue Jay Classic earlier this season on December 6. He also went 4-0 with four bonus-point wins, including a 16-5 major decision over Stevens' Michael O'Connor in the final.

Allen also recorded the fastest fall of his career with a win in just 22 seconds over Pierre-Jovan Fuentes of York (Pa.) in the second round.

The Green Terror had four wrestlers finish in third place, including senior Romeo Tsai at 125, first-year Andrew Dolezel at 141, junior Alex Taylor at 174, and first-year Isaac Ogunlade at 197.

Tsai earned his seventh career tournament placement and his third this year after winning the Blue Jay Classic and finishing second at Messiah Invitational. Two of his three wins came by shutout with an 11-0 major decision over Harris Keares of Penn College and an 18-0 tech fall over Zane Trostle of York (Pa.) in the third-place match.

Dolezel went 5-1 with two falls and two tech falls to improve to improve to 16-6 in tournament matches this season.

Taylor made his tournament debut at 174 pounds after posting a 7-5 mark at 184. He went 4-1 with four decisions and has won five out of six matches at 174 this season.

Ogunlade dropped his opening match before finishing with four consecutive wins, including two sudden victory decisions in his final two matches. His last victory came against senior Zeke Gayle who finished fourth at 197 after posting a 4-2 record.

First-year LaDaynean Simpson posted his second-straight fourth-place finish at 165 pounds after placing fourth at the Jim Crytzer Invitational. He went 2-2 with one of his losses coming to Elizabethtown's Justice Hockenberry-Folk who is ranked third in Region 3.
