EWING, N.J. - On Saturday, McDaniel College wrestling senior
Thomas Monn won his third 149-pound title at the NCAA Region 3 Championships hosted by The College of New Jersey, earning his third trip the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.
The Green Terror finished 13th out of 21 teams with a total of 50 points. The No. 3-ranked and host Lions won the team title with 174 points and had six wrestlers qualify for nationals.
Centennial Conference rivals Ursinus and Gettysburg finished fourth, and eighth, respectively. The conference has a total of five wrestlers competing at the national championships later this month.
McDaniel has had at least one wrestler qualify for the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in each of the last four seasons.
Monn, who is ranked No. 2 nationally by the National Wrestling Coaches Association and No. 1 in Region 3, is a two-time All-American, finishing sixth at nationals in 2023 and fifth in 2025. He finished the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record with two tech falls, posting two decisions on Saturday against two regionally-ranked wrestlers in No. 4 Michael Williams of Misericordia, 4-1, and No. 6 Chance Babb of Alvernia, 5-2.
With two more wins on Saturday, Monn is now 40-0 this season and just the second wrestler to win 40 matches in a season in program history. Steve Smiddy holds the record with 41 set during the 1996-97 season. The program's all-time leader in career wins with 142, Monn can become the single-season wins leader with two wins at nationals.
Junior
Alex Taylor and first-year
Isaiah Brewster both finished eighth this weekend at 174 and 125 pounds, respectively.
The 2026 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships will be held March 13-14 at Alliant Energy Power House in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Brackets will be released on Friday, March 6.
