Monn Advances to National Semifinals, Earns Third All-American

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - McDaniel College men's wrestling senior Thomas Monn earned All-America honors with two wins on the first day of the 2026 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at Alliant Energy Power House on Friday.

Monn is the first Green Terror in program history to earn three All-America honors and the fourth in the history of the Centennial Conference, joining Matt Loesch from Muhlenberg (2005, 2006, 2007), Paul Bewak from Johns Hopkins (2012, 2014, 2015), and Brandon Jones from NYU (2013, 2014, 2015).

With his third All-America, McDaniel has now had 17 All-America selections in its history, the most in Centennial Conference history, surpassing Stevens who had 16 from 2008 to 2019.

In addition, with his second win to advance him the national semifinals at 149 pounds, Monn picked up his 42nd win of the season, surpassing Steve Smiddy for most wins in a season in program history. Smiddy had 41 during the 1996-97 season.

Monn is now 42-0 this season, including 28-0 in tournament matches. For his career, he is 144-11, including 82-10 in tournament matches and a mark of 10-5 at the national championships.

The top-seed at 149 pounds and ranked second nationally, Monn began the day with a major decision over 14th-ranked Ryan Hinger of Elmhurst, 11-2. He then posted a 5-3 decision against ninth-seeded and 11th-ranked Max Mukhamedaliyev of the University of Chicago to advance to his first-ever national semifinals.

Needing two wins to claim McDaniel's first-ever national championship in wrestling, Monn will face the nation's No. 1-ranked wrestler at 149 pounds, Dom Mallinder of Wisconsin-Whitewater who is seeded fifth.

The best ever finish for a Green Terror at the national championships is third. Brock Glotfelty finished third at 285 pounds in 2011 and Ryan O'Boyle placed third at 133 pounds in 2016.

Championship semifinals get underway at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the championship finals at 8 p.m. Both times are Eastern.
