LANDOVER, Md. - The McDaniel College women's indoor track & field team returned to action for the first time in 43 days on Saturday, competing at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Catholic at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.
The Green Terror placed ninth out of 13 teams, scoring 11.5 points. Centennial Conference rival Johns Hopkins took home the team title with 196.5 points while Division I George Washington came in second with 88 points. A second conference rival, Franklin & Marshall, finished sixth with 32 points.
Junior Sophia Leone led the team in scoring with five points. She posted a mark of 3.20m in the pole vault to place fourth. She now has eight of the top 10 pole vault performances in program history.
First-year Allison Kapustka jumped 2.75m to place seventh to move into seventh in program history. Junior Michaela Carney placed eighth with a mark of 2.75m.
Junior Maya Colavito placed sixth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 20:16.38, qualifying her for the the conference championship meet. First-year Evie Eggers ran 22:06.21 to place 10th.
Sophomore Gabby DeMarco placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.56m while senior Elyssa Greene placed 10th at 8.72m.
Senior Anna Rando placed 11th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.16 seconds.
DeMarco placed 15th in the long jump with a mark of 4.40m, Rando placed 18th at 4.26m, and Greene placed 21st at 3.53m.
Senior Ameerah Johnson placed 10th in the weight throw with a mark of 11.38m and senior Kate Principio placed 20th with a mark of 9.72m.
Senior Piper Nagaraj posted a time of 2:46.66 in the 800 meters to place 13th while sophomore Riley Friedman placed 17th with a time of 2:57.03.
Sophomore Maddie Alexander placed 21st in the shot put with a mark of 7.75m. First-year De'Ashia Davis placed 22nd with a mark of 7.27m.
Senior Arianna Lowengrub placed 35th in the mile with a time of 6:50.88.
McDaniel returns to action next Saturday, January 24 at the Shane Stevens Invitational hosted by Bridgewater (Va.).
