LANCASTER, Pa. – Two players from the McDaniel College softball team were selected to the All-Centennial Conference Team on Thursday, led by sophomore
Ashley Shawyer who was selected to the first team.
Shawyer's selection is the second of her career after being named an honorable mention pick a year ago. Freshman
Ally McBride was selected to the second team.
The Green Terror continue their streak of at least one all-conference selection in every season since 2010. There was no team selected in 2020 due to COVID. Shawyer's selection gives the program a first team all-conference player for the second season in a row.
Shawyer led the team with a .368 batting average, good for 12
th best in the conference. She hit two home runs and totaled 16 RBIs, both team-highs. Her 32 hits ranked second on the team; she hit four doubles, drew 14 walks and only struck out five times in 87 plate appearances. Her on-base percentage and OPS were also the strongest on the team among qualified batters.
McBride earned her first career selection after a dominant freshman campaign in the circle. Her 2.90 ERA was best on the team and seventh best in the conference, tossing seven complete games in just nine starts and 70 innings. She also ranked seventh in the conference with 54 strikeouts and was one of only three qualified pitchers in the conference to not allow a home run this season. At the plate, she made 27 starts and finished third on the team in average, hitting .297. She hit one home run and totaled 11 RBIs in 91 plate appearances.
