Ally McBride threw a complete game shutout in game one and sophomore
Amy Anderson went the distance in game two as the McDaniel College softball team swept a doubleheader with Haverford on Sunday.
The Green Terror (17-19-1, 6-10) conclude the regular season on a three-game winning streak to match their win total from last season.
McBride won her sixth game of the year with a dominant outing in game one.
McDaniel 5, Haverford 0 (Game 1)
McBride retired the first three batters she faced to set up a two-run inning for McDaniel in the second. Freshman
Emma Taff hit a two-run single through the right side to score senior
Jessica Millard and sophomore
Ashley Shawyer.
After another 1-2-3 inning from the Fords (16-20, 4-12), the Green Terror tacked on two more runs in the third. Junior
Sariah Guevara smacked an RBI double into left field to make the score 3-0, and junior
Taylor Applefeld reached on a fielder's choice to score Millard.
McBride gave the visitors a 5-0 lead on an RBI single in the sixth. She then shut down Haverford to secure the shutout, only allowing two baserunners in the final two innings.
Taff went 1-for-4 with two RBIs in the opener, while McBride and Guevara also finished with RBI hits. Senior
Bella Sylvester had a two-hit day along with Millard, who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Shawyer scored twice and had a hit with two walks.
McBride struck out three batters and walked three in the complete game win, only allowing six baserunners over the full seven innings.
The Green Terror opened up a five-run lead before holding on late to win, 7-5.
McDaniel 7, Haverford 5 (Game 2)
Taff gave McDaniel the first run of the game in the second inning, hitting a single and scoring Millard after a throwing error. The Fords tied the game 1-1 in the third on a sacrifice fly.
The Green Terror plated three runs in the fifth to take the lead, all of which were unearned. Shawyer reached base on an error, allowing sophomore
Riley Jackson to score and give the visitors the lead. Guevara added an insurance run on an RBI single, advancing to second on a wild pitch that scored freshman
Rileigh Kitchin.
Haverford cut the lead in half on a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 4-2. McDaniel responded with three runs in the top of the sixth, scoring on an error, an RBI single from Shawyer and a wild pitch.
The Fords plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh but could not tie the game to force extras as the Green Terror held on to win, 7-5.
Jackson had a two-hit game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Shawyer and Guevara each had a hit and an RBI. Millard, Taff and senior
Olivia Dresser each finished with a base hit in game two.
Anderson threw a complete game in the win, striking out one batter while walking four and allowing four earned runs on eight hits.
