An RBI fielder's choice in the first inning put the Eagles (2-4) on the board early. Three more runs came across in the third to increase the Mary Washington lead to 4-0. A two-run double in the fifth made the score 6-0 before an RBI single from senior Sariah Guevara scored junior Anna Putnam to plate McDaniel's first run. A two-run home run in the sixth inning sealed the 8-1 win for the Eagles in the opener.

Guevara finished the day 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk while first year Erin Thayer went 2-for-3. First year Emma McPherson and sophomore Ally McBride each had a hit in the loss.
